Cardinals to Exercise Fifth-Year Option on OT D.J. Humphries

The Cardinals plan to exercise the fifth-year option in D.J. Humphries’ contract, which means the left tackle will be under contract through 2019, Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic reports.

The move isn’t surprising, even though Humphries has yet to play a full season. The Cardinals were impressed with Humphries’ development when he moved to left tackle in 2016, and Humphries played well last year before his season ended with a knee injury on Nov. 5 against the 49ers.

Humphries, 24, underwent surgery to repair a torn MCL and dislocated knee cap. He said recently he expects to be ready for the start of the season.

A first-round pick in 2015, Humphries was inactive for every game as a rookie. He opened 2016 as the starting right tackle and moved to left tackle when Jared Veldheer was injured.
