Cardinals Make Odd Signing – Bring In RB Rainey to Practice Squad

Chris Rainey

The Cardinals today made a splash with signing a name player with a sorted past to their practice squad.

That player is former Steelers and Colts RB Chris Rainey. He was twice kicked off football teams over allegations of domestic violence.

Rainey was a fifth-round pick of the Steelers back in 2012, and was gone right after his rookie season after he was cut by the Steelers after being slapping his girlfriend. He later pleaded no contest to disorderly conduct in connection with that incident.

He went to the Colts this offseason, but was cut last month for disciplinary reasons.

Rainey also was kicked off Florida back in 2010 after being arrested on a felony charge of aggravated stalking after allegedly sending threatening text messages to a woman he had been dating. He later pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor stalking charge.

It seems like an odd signing for the Cardinals, but at the same time the club must feel an urge to get a RB on the roster, and they are willing to take a chance with Rainey.
