On Tuesday, the Cardinals re-signed one of their biggest free-agents perhaps. The Cardinals and punter Dave Zastudil have agreed to a two-year deal to keep the 35-year-old veteran from hitting the open market.
“I know the nature of this business and free agency,” Zastudil said. “I always wanted to be back and I made that known. When the Cardinals had a chance to re-sign free agents, I was hoping it’d be me. It’s been a great second home for me and I really wanted to come back and play there.”
Zastudil averages 45.7 yards per punt and had a net average of 40.1. His 35 punts inside the 20-yard line tied for first in the National Football League.
The Cardinals also have several other players about to hit the market this March. Rashard Mendenhall, Karlos Dansby, Eric Winston, Andre Roberts, Yeremiah Bell, and Jay Feely are the biggest names of the 2014 free agents roster.
“It’s almost impossible to bring the same team back,” Zastudil said. “What you think and hope for, the guys that are free agents and have helped this team to be so successful, you hope there is some way for the front office to bring all the guys back and upgrade, but the reality is that won’t happen.”
