Wells placed on IR

Despite the good start by the Arizona Cardinals, even they have the injury bug biting them.

On Wednesday, the team placed running back Beanie Wells on the injured reserve list, with a case of what is described as a “severe turf toe injury.” Arizona designated him for a return, which means that the earliest that Wells can return to the team is on November 25, when the Cardinals play the St. Louis Rams.

Although 2011 has been his best season in his career, he has been injury-prone this season, especially after undergoing off-season knee surgery.

As a result of Wells’ placement on the IR, it is likely that RBs Ryan Williams and LaRod Stephens-Howling will take up most of the carries. In the meantime, the team re-signed Alfonso Smith Wednesday.
