Cardinals and Chiefs to Have Joint Practices This Summer?

The Chiefs may have one or more joint practice sessions with the Cardinals at training camp in St. Joseph this summer according to Adam Teicher of the Kansas City Star.

The teams play one another in a preseason game on Aug. 10 at Arrowhead Stadium. The Cardinals will also be in the Midwest to play in the annual Hall of Fame game the previous weekend in Canton, Ohio.

“There’s been some mention of it,” Chiefs coach Romeo Crennel said of the practice sessions with the Cardinals. “Whether it will happen or not, we’ll just have to wait and see. I’m not opposed to it. If this were my first year, I would be opposed to doing something like that. But I’ve been here a couple years and defensively, we’ve got our system in place and I think we’re making good progress with the offense so if it works out, I think it will be a good change. If it doesn’t work out, then we’ll just go right on with what we normally do.”

“The pro is that you get a chance to work against somebody else other than your own guys, your teammates,” Crennel said. “As practice goes on, you get used to your teammates, and you know what their moves are and you can anticipate their strong points and their weak points and you can kind of play those things during practice.

“When you get a totally new person or a new body you have to go against, you don’t know them, and so you get a chance to see how your group is evaluated against a different group.”
