The Cardinals have gotten some cap space, as they have restructured the contract of center Lyle Sendlein.
Signed to a five-year, $16.25 million contract last July, Sendlein was scheduled to receive a $2.4 million base salary in 2012. Under the restructured contract, Sendlein’s base salary has been reduced to $700,000 with the remaining $1.7 million taken as a signing bonus that will be prorated over the last four years of the deal.
The simple restructure — which was similar to teammate Daryn Colledge’s restructure — saves $1.275 million in cap space in 2012, adding $425,000 to Sendlein’s cap numbers in 2013-15.
Undrafted out of Texas in 2007, Sendlein started two games as a rookie before taking over the full-time starting role in 2008. Sendlein has missed just three offensive snaps over the last four seasons — none in 2011 — and his consecutive games (74) and consecutive starts (64) streaks rank fourth among active NFL centers.
