Positives and Negatives in Red-White Practice

The Cardinals had their annual Red-White training camp scrimmage Saturday afternoon, under perfect weather, and the game drew almost 13,000 fans. The setting of the game was perfect, at the end of the first full week of training camp, we finally had a full pads, game-like atmosphere. There were plenty of things to applaud, and of course, as expected, plenty of mistakes.

The biggest news of the day however was the injury of Safety Adrian Wilson. Wilson left the field with a biceps or elbow injury, and is expected to have a MRI on Monday, and the details more than likely will not be released until then as well. Arizona took the effort to re-sign Matt Ware, so it seems Wilson will miss some time.

On the field, the Cardinals spent most of the two hour practice in full squad game like situations, with new quarterback Kevin Kolb receiving most of the first team snaps, as expected. Kolb completed numerous pretty passes, including a perfect strike to Todd Heap on a crossing route. Of course, Fitz didn’t miss amy work, hauling in a 39 yard bomb in the corner of the endzone.

Larry Fitzgerald makes a spectacular catch.

Despite Kolb’s success, he also was intercepted three times. The first was a tip and catch by Danrnell Dockett, and cornerback A.J. Jefferson as well as linebacker Daryl Washington came away with one apiece. Kolb admitted that “things are happening fast, but I like it that way”, he said. “I like having the pressure on me”, he continued .

There are going to be challenges and injuries in any camp, but the Cards continue to be optimistic about where they’re at practice wise. We’ll see where they really are a week from Thursday, when the open up the preseason in the McAfee Coliseum against the Raiders.
