Wells Appears Ready For Competition

The Cardinals’ selection of former Virginia Tech star Ryan Williams in the second round of the draft has been good motivation for one of their prominent incumbent running backs.

The Arizona Republic reports Beanie Wells, listed at 6-2, 235, has looked trimmer with “not an ounce of body fat” on him in unofficial workouts organized. That’s good, because he figures to get stiff competition from Williams, who projects to be a good power back in the NFL while Tim Hightower is also in the Cards’ backfield mix.

Coach Ken Whisenhunt has been trying to get the strong running game he once had in Pittsburgh with Jerome Bettis. With Wells working hard and Williams also driven, a very good option is likely to emerge when the season starts.
