OPEN GAME THREAD: Second Quarter

The 49ers lead the Cardinals 14-3 at the end of the first quarter.  A Beanie Wells fumble on Arizona’s first play from scrimmage set up a 38-yard touchdown pass on the very next play from Troy Smith to Michael Crabtree.

The Cardinals struck back with a long completion from Anderson to Wells down the right sideline, but the drive stalled in the 49ers’ redzone; Arizona put up three points.  On the 49ers next possession, they drove right down the field and punched in another touchdown on Brian Westbrook’s 1-yard plunge.

With one quarter in the books, the 49ers are absolutely brutalizing the Cardinals up front.  If things don’t change this game will get out of hand before the half is out.

Cardinals Keys to Get Back into the Game:

1.  Play with some intensity.  The Cards are totally flat and appear to be playing with little or no emotion.  The Niners, however, are flying around the field.

2.  Linebackers must fill in run support.  Paris Lenon and Gerald Hayes are getting destroyed by the 49ers’ linemen on the second level.  Hayes and Lenon must get off the blocks and make some plays.

3.  Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie has to get his head in the game.  He’s giving receivers far too much cushion for having such physical abilities.  Besides, he’s not even staying with receivers when he plays off-techinique.
