Cardinals Trail Raiders 20-17 at Half

The Cardinals are trying to keep up with the Raiders.  After LaRod Stephens-Howling took the opening kick-off all the way for a score, the Raiders fought back, taking a 3 point lead with ten seconds left in the half.

The Cardinals offense, once again, is having a lot of trouble.  Although Derek Anderson (7/17, 56 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT) threw a TD pass to Steve Breaston on a 7-play, 68 yard drive, the Cardinals’ quarterback failed to spot a wide open Larry Fitzgerald, who does not have a reception yet.  Anderson also cost the Cardinals a great shot for points by throwing an interception right after the defense picked off Gradkowski (8/17, 126 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT), who has outplayed Anderson so far.  Anderson threw a quick shuttle pass in traffic to Hightower (21 yards, 5 carries), but the pass was behind Tim, who could only bat the ball in the air, which was subsequently picked off.  Anderson should have pulled the ball down or at least put it where Hightower could have handled it.  The Raiders proceeded to drive the ball right down the field, capping the drive with a touchdown on a Darren McFadden (74 yards, 11 carries, 1 TD) run.

The Cardinals’ defense has been seriously lacking in the first half as McFadden has broken off a number of big gainers.  In addition, the coverage has been spotty.  Adrian Wilson lost track of Raiders’ TE Zach Miller, who caught a routine 22 yard TD from Gradkowski.

Beanie Wells, fortunately, has looked impressive in his first action.  He has 53 yards on 9 carries, but the Cardinals have a lot of work to do to take this one away from the Raiders, who appear to want the game more at this point.
