Wells Appears to be Green-Lighted for Sunday

It appears more likely than ever that Beanie Wells will make his 2010 Regular Season debut against the Raiders this Sunday

Whisenhunt reiterated yesterday (9/23) that he expects Beanie Wells to play this Sunday.  Wells’ workload yesterday was the most since he injured his knee in Week 4 of the pre-season.  At this point, the issue seems to be a matter of game planning, rather than whether or not he’ll play.  “We will get a feel for it as it goes,” Whisenhunt said.  “If he gets a hot hand, like he has shown before, we will give some work.  But he’s not in football shape, so to think he’ll get 25 or 30 carries, that’s not going to happen.  He’ll get enough, and if it’s the right situation, we will see where he is.”

The Cardinals still must assess whether Wells’ knee has significantly swelled since yesterday, a position the team held last week, but it seems more likely than ever that Wells will play.  Concerning his number of carries, I’d be surprised if Beanie gets even 20 carries this Sunday considering that Wells will share the backfield with starter Tim Hightower, who aside from two Week 1 fumbles is having a great 2010 season thus far.
