Kent Somers’ Top 5 Questions for the Cards

Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic posted his 5 biggest questions for the Arizona Cardinals heading in to training camp this year:

1. Can Matt Leinart play?

It’s unrealistic to think Leinart will be as good as his predecessor, Kurt Warner, but Leinart has to be more than just a caretaker, too. It’s hard to win a championship without an elite quarterback.

2. Do the old guys have something left?

Guard Alan Faneca and outside linebacker Joey Porter, both 33, are expected to provide leadership. But the two free agents need to play well, too. The Cardinals need Porter to rush the passer and for Faneca to bolster the run game.

3. Will the holes in the secondary be filled?

The team’s search for a corner to play opposite Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie continues. A host of candidates, including Greg Toler, Michael Adams and Trumaine McBride , will compete for the job in training camp. Kerry Rhodes will take over for Antrel Rolle at safety.

4. How much will Anquan Boldin’s absence be felt?

The franchise’s all-time leading receiver, Boldin was a powerful presence on the field and off. The Cardinals traded him to the Ravens rather than sign him to a multi-year deal. The feeling was that Boldin was beginning to slow down and that Steve Breaston was a more dynamic threat.

5. How will the Cardinals cope with change?

An awful lot of talent walked out the door after the 2009 season: Warner, Boldin, Rolle, inside linebacker Karlos Dansby. The Cardinals had a plan in place in the event they experienced those losses.”

It seems that those following the Cardinals are all preoccupied with the same issues.  Hopefully they will be resolved in a positive way.
