Cards Sign Rookie QB Skelton; Waive DB Jones

PFT.com reports that the Cards have inked rookie QB John Skelton and have waived defensive back Herana-Daze Jones:

The Arizona Cardinals announced Wednesday that they have signed rookie quarterback John Skelton. To make room on the roster, the team waived journeyman defensive back Herana-Daze Jones.

A raw, if high-upside passer from Fordham, Skelton flashed Ben Roethlisberger-like on-field skills for the Rams. Skelton is 6-foot-5, 258 pounds, and has an absolute cannon for an arm. Underrated athletically, he is adept at escaping the pass rush and completing passes from a variety of arm angles. Skelton is a project, however, and needs to improve his accuracy.

We surprised some by ranking Skelton as the third-best quarterback prospect in this year’s class. In March, we also predicted he’d be drafted by the Cardinals, though he fell a couple of rounds further than expected.

According to Aaron Wilson of the Carroll County Times, Skelton received a signing bonus of roughly $182,000 on his four-year contract.

Skelton will enter training camp competing with Max Hall to be third on Arizona’s depth chart behind Matt Leinart and Derek Anderson.
