Start of OTAs Drawing Near in Arizona

The Cardinals begin Organized Team Activities tomorrow (5/18).  This will afford the coaching staff the first real opportunity to gauge how position battles will shake out this off-season.  Some of the more interesting battles should  include:

  • Right Guard– Reggie Wells, Rex Hadnot
  • Right Tackle– Brandon Keith, Jeremy Bridges, Reggie Wells
  • Cornerback– Greg Toler, Justin Miller, Michael Adams, Trumaine McBride, Rashad Barksdale, Jorrick Calvin (rookie)
  • Weak Inside Linebacker– Paris Lenon, Daryl Washington (rookie)
  • Nose Tackle– Bryan Robinson, Dan Williams (rookie), Gabe Watson
  • 4th WR- Andre Roberts (rookie), Edward Gant, Onrea Jones
  • Punt Returner– Andre Roberts (rookie), Steve Breaston

The other positions are pretty well set.  Obviously, Derek Anderson will push Matt Leinart, as Whisenhunt intended, but the job is Leinart’s unless he absolutely collapses as he did going into the 2008 season.

Whether Beanie Wells immediately gets the lion’s share of carries is another possible point of interest.  Hightower will dominate passing downs, but Wells should turn out to be the regular first and second down option.
