Cardinals to Sign Flurry of Rookie Free Agents

UPDATE: In addition to the players listed below in the article, the Cardinals’ official website confirms that Arizona signed the following players as well:

  • WR Juamorris Stewart, Southern, rookie free agent
  • CB Marshay Green, Mississippi, rookie free agent
  • C David Moosman, Michigan, rookie free agent
  • WR Deryn Bowser, Akron, rookie free agent
  • CB Justin Miller, Jets’ 2005 second round selection

The Cardinals remained busy only one day removed from the 2010 Draft.  The team will reportedly sign as many as 10 undrafted rookie free agents.  Chief among these players is BYU quarterback Max Hall.  Although the team hasn’t announced the other signings, it’s believed they will sign:

  • WR Stephen Williams, Toledo
  • T Casey Knips, South Dakota State
  • CB, A.J. Jefferson, Fresno State
  • T Devin Tyler, Temple
  • WR Max Komar, Idaho
  • RB Alfonso Smith, Kentucky

It’s unreasonable to expect Max Hall to have any real impact on the team at this point.  Leinart is definitely the starter, Anderson is the back-up, and now Skelton appears to be the quarterback of the future; at least that’s the plan.  At the very least, the signing of Hall will put Skelton on alert that he has to earn his keep as the quarterback of tomorrow.

In any event, Hall has a decent resume.  He was a two-time Sports Illustrated All-America honorable-mention, three-time All-MWC,  and won more games than any other BYU quarterback with 32 victories.  Hall amassed 11,365 yards passing and threw for 94 touchdowns during his three starting seasons at BYU.  He also set 14 different school or conference records during his college career.

Hall’s signing also has implications for long-time Cardinal back-up QB Brian St. Pierre.  It’s highly unlikely St. Pierre will sign because there’s really no reason to keep five quarterbacks under contract, unless you’re Oakland.
