Feely To Visit Cards, Porter Visits ‘Skins

According to team sources, the Cardinals are hosting free agent kicker Jay Feely for a visit over this weekend.  The 33 year old converted 30 of 36 attempts for the New York Jets last year, including all 32 extra point attempts.  Feely is a nine-year NFL veteran and has an 81.6 career field-goal percentage.  In addition, Feely served as the Jets emergency punter, which would provide some depth if something were to unexpectedly happen to Ben Graham.

Feely would be the second Jets import if he signed with the Cardinals during this off season.  It’s rumored that the Cardinals are attempting to negotiate a new contract with Rackers, but Feely’s visit suggests that a deal with Rackers is far from imminent.

Another Free Agent Tidbit:

Free agent outside linebacker Joey Porter arrived in Washington for a visit with the Washington Redskins late Thursday night.  This was Porter’s second visit during free agency.  Although there is no report of an offer yet, at least Redskins linebacker London Fletcher thinks Porter would be a good addition.  Fletcher told the Washington Post that “Coach Haslett and Lou Spanos know [Porter] very well.  I don’t have to sell [Porter] on the scheme or on [the coaches] or anything like that.  It’s just a matter of a feel, how [the coaches] feel [Porter] can fit in our defense with the Washington Redskins.”

The aging Porter most likely realizes that this is his last shot for a big money contract.  Despite the fact that Porter expressed an interest in playing for a team on the West coast, there’s little doubt that he will sign with whoever offers him the most money.
