PFW: Cards Not Rushing to Give Coach Whisenhunt a New Deal

The Cards have a lot to think about when it comes to free agents, and Pro Football Weekly reports that one person they have to think about is coach Ken Whisenhunt, who will enter the final year of his deal in 2010:

The Cardinals once again face a host of contract issues with key players this offseason (most notably Pro Bowl starting DT Darnell Dockett, ILB Karlos Dansby and FS Antrel Rolle). In addition, they need to make a decision once and for all on star WR Anquan Boldin, whose well-documented unhappiness over his contract continues to make it unlikely he will be back with the team. With all that going on, it’s easy to lose sight of the fact that highly regarded head coach Ken Whisenhunt will be entering the final year of his contract in 2010. Should the team be seriously considering a new deal for Whisenhunt, as is being suggested with increasing frequency by fans and the local media? “It really hasn’t been addressed much because it’s been so long since they’ve been in a situation like this,” said one veteran team insider. “Given their history, you have to wonder, but it would really be stupid to let the situation linger and create a situation where he could become a very attractive free agent.”
