Cardinals Agree to Terms w/ First-Round Pick RB Wells

The Cardinals agreed to terms on a five-year contract with first-round draft pick Beanie Wells, and the former Ohio State running back arrived at training camp on Saturday.

Financial terms of the contract were not immediately available. To make room on the roster for Wells, the Cardinals released tight end Alex Shor.

Wells said he weighed in at 224 after weighing 246 pounds on draft day and playing at 238 last year at Ohio State. Wells said he feels quicker and faster, and the Cardinals coaches are impressed by his conditioning.

“I’m really excited that he came in with his weight so low,” coach Ken Whisenhunt said. “We’d asked him to lose it and he’s done a great job with John Lott (conditioning and strength coach) and his teammates.”

Wells was the 31st overall pick in the NFL draft after leading the Buckeyes in rushing last season with 1,197 yards and eight touchdowns on 207 carries.
