Whisenhunt’s Extension Not a Current Concern

Despite taking the Cardinals to their first ever Super Bowl, there has been no talk of giving an extension to coach Ken Whisenhunt. Here is the report from the Arizona Republic on the Whiz and his future:

At this time, however, there’s not a place setting at the table for coach Ken Whisenhunt, who guided the Cardinals to the first Super Bowl appearance in franchise history. Two years ago, Whisenhunt signed a four-year contract with a team option for a fifth year. With three years remaining on his deal, Whisenhunt’s contract apparently isn’t a pressing concern.

Whisenhunt’s base salary is around $2.5 million, which is believed to be close to the league average. It is less, however, than the reported four-year, $12 million contract Todd Haley signed with the Chiefs in February. Haley was Whisenhunt’s offensive coordinator the past two seasons. Whisenhunt hasn’t brought the subject up with management, nor does he have plans to. Asked at the owners’ meetings about his contract, Whisenhunt said he wasn’t even thinking about it.
