Fitzgerald Says He’d Redo Deal if it Meant Keeping Boldin

The Cardinals have an explosive offense, and on Wednesday as the team continued to get ready for Super Bowl XLIII, wide out Larry Fitzgerald took an unselfish step to trying to keep that offense together. The topic came up to Fitzgerald if he would be willing to restructure his contract to try and keep fellow wide out Anquan Boldin around for seasons to come.

“Someone asked me a question if I would be willing to do something to help the team, and I said, `No problem,’ ” Fitzgerald said Wednesday. “This opportunity right here to be playing deep in the postseason, this is an amazing feeling. I’ll do whatever it takes to get back to this point going forward in my career.”

The two combine to be one of, if not the best wide out combo in the league, and Fitzgerald is well aware of that. Fitzgerald pulled in 96 passes for 1431 yards and 12 TD’s this year, while Boldin had 89 catches for 1038 yards and 11 scores, this despite missing four games after being knocked out in a game vs the Jets.

Boldin heard about Fitzgerald’s words, and was appreciative of the offer for his teammate to do what he could to try and keep the tandem together. “Fitz and I have been together for five years, and we’ve been through a lot together,” Boldin said. “I think the relationship that we have, neither of us want to see broken up. There’s mutual respect, not only as receivers but as friends, and we realize that we make each other’s jobs easier.”

Boldin has been saying that he’d like to be traded, and that he won’t re-sign with the Cardinals. Most of that came of course before the team made it to Super Bowl XLIII, and of course before Fitzgerald stated he’d do what he could to keep Boldin in Arizona. Boldin has two years left on the four-year, $22.75 million contract he signed after the 2005 season. The deal paid him about $4 million this season.

Look for the Cards to talk to Boldin about getting that deal ripped up and re-done, and if Fitzgerald has anything to say about it – the two will be together for a long time to come.
