Cardinals Crushed in the Snow in New England 47-7

This does not look like a team ready for the playoffs.

The Cardinals Sunday might as well kept the bus warm, as they didn’t even show up vs the Patriots, laying a huge egg in falling behind 31-0 at the half, and then trailing 47-0 in the fourth quarter before scoring a garbage TD to at least get on the board in an eventual 47-7 loss.

The team is now 8-7, and have gone into full collapse mode over the last month.  They have lost four of their last five, and if it were not for a win over the awful St.Louis Rams two weeks ago very well may be fighting for their playoff lives as they enter week 17 next Sunday vs the Seahawks.

Nevertheless, they are playing like a team that really has nothing to play for – at least for now.  In the snow of New England, they allowed the Pats to run all over them, giving up 514 yards and putting up just 186 yards and 8 first downs.  Kurt Warner started, but went just 6-for-18 for 30 yards before giving way to Matt Leinart, who was not all that much better, going 6-for-14 for 138 yards with a TD and pick.

The running game continues to be a joke, as they put up 44 rushing yards on 15 carries (2.9 yards per carry), and Edgerrin James, who has been MIA for over a month, led the team with 19 yards on 4 carries.  Tim Hightower, who has gone ice cold, had 17 yards on 10 carries.

The Cards D had no answers for Matt Cassel, who looks more and more like Tom Brady.  Cassel was 20-for-36 for 345 yards and three TD’s.  Sammy Morris had 88 yards on 15 carries, and Lamont Jordan put up 78 yards on 20 carries.  Randy Moss, Wes Welker, and Kevin Faulk all caught TD’s for the Pats in the route.

“I can’t understand it or explain it,” Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt said. “We may need to grow up, to show that we can play through adversity.”  The team is for sure not showing they are going to do much in the post season.  If today or most of the last month is any indication, the first playoff game in Arizona in a long time may be the last for an even longer time.
