Notes From the Cardinals 34-10 Victory vs. St. Louis

·With the 34-10 win vs. St. Louis, the Cardinals clinched the NFC West division, securing their first division title since 1975 when they won the NFC East. The win also clinched the Cardinals their first home playoff game since 1947.

·Arizona has either shared the division lead or held it outright every week of the 2008 season. Arizona was tied with San Francisco after weeks three and four (at 2-1 and 2-2) but have been alone in first place in the NFC West every week since. It marks just the third time in franchise history that the Cardinals will have spent every week of the season in first place, also accomplishing the feat in 1974 and 1947.

·The win this week over St. Louis was the fifth straight over the Rams and the second series sweep in two years. The last time the Cardinals defeated a team five consecutive times was vs. Detroit between 1995-2002.

·The win gives the Cardinals a 5-0 record in NFC West games, guaranteeing them their best record against division opponents since entering the NFC West in 2002. Previously, the Cardinals best record against division opponents since entering the NFC West was in 2006 when they went 4-2. The Cardinals have never had a perfect division record (they went 5-0-1 in 1969 as a member of the Century Division).

·The win over St. Louis also gave the Cardinals six consecutive wins over teams from the NFC West dating back to last season. It is their longest divisional win streak since winning seven straight in 1975-76 as members of the NFC East.

·The Cardinals moved to 8-5 on the season and matched their win total from last season (8-8). The last time the Cardinals recorded back-to-back seasons with eight or more wins was 1975 (11-3) and 1976 (10-4).

·Yesterday’s game marked the 28th consecutive sellout at University of Phoenix Stadium. The Cardinals have sold out every game (including preseason) since the stadium opened in 2006.

·The Cardinals improved to 5-1 at home this season and under head coach Ken Whisenhunt the Cardinals have an 11-3 record at University of Phoenix Stadium since the beginning of 2007. Arizona is tied with Dallas for the fourth-best winning percentage at home during that time (78.6) behind Tampa Bay (12-2, 85.7), New England (12-3, 80.0) and Pittsburgh (12-3, 80.0).

·With 34 points at home yesterday, the Cardinals have now scored 415 points at home in their 14 home games dating back to 2007. Their 29.6 points per game average over that time ranks as the highest in the NFL.

·Including yesterday’s win over St. Louis, the Cardinals have now scored 20 or more points in 20 of their last 21 games. The only game in which the Cardinals were held under 20 points in that span was at Washington on 9/21/08 when they scored 17 points.

·After the Cardinals 34-10 win over the Rams yesterday, they are one of only four teams in the NFL whose offense and defense are both ranked in the top 10 in the league this season. The other three teams (Dallas, NY Giants and Philadelphia) all hail from the NFC East.
