They played well, they deserve to be 4-2, but let’s not get too high, too soon. The Cardinals appear to finally be living up to the promise that fans have been waiting years for. Sunday was a special win for all the right reasons, mostly though due to two huge special teams plays that netted them the first score of the game, and the game-winner in OT.
They had their moments of lapses, and yes, they let the Cowboys of the hook more than once, but again, it was really a “special” win. Credit must be paid to Kevin Spencer, Cards special teams coach, who came up with the gutsy call to bum-rush Matt McBride in OT when the Cowboys were punting from their own goal line.
Sean Morley, special teams ace, got through basically untouched, and was able to get the clean block which then was taken in the end zone by Monty Beisel for the winning score. The Cards will have two weeks to come off the high of the Cowboys win, but what they must remember this week is to remain grounded. After all, we all saw what the Jets did to them just three weeks ago.
“We’ve made great progress as a team,” Whisenhunt said Monday. “I think that showed up yesterday on the game, just from the standpoint of being mentally tougher.” They have that momentum within the team and within the division. Have they arrived totally yet? That won’t be decided 100 percent till they come out vs the Panthers and Rams on the road in the two weeks after the bye.
