Cards Recover with Knockout of Bills 41-17 in Arizona

For the Cardinals, a little home cooking can cure all ails. That’s exactly how it was yesterday in front of the home fans in red, as the Cardinals used a high powered offense and a defense that never allowed the Bills to get really going for a big 41-17 win. The Cards improve to 3-2 on the season, good for first in the NFC West.

Kurt Warner, one week after an awful outing in the Meadowlands, was 33-for-42 for 250 yards with two TD’s and no turnovers. He paced an offense that ended with 373 yards on 76 total plays. The Cards ended the day with 123 yards rushing on 34 carries. Edgerrin James ran for 57 yards on 21 carries, just a 2.7 yards per carry average, but it was the fact that the Cards kept running the ball that that was the key.

They also held the ball for 36:16 to just 23:44 for Buffalo, and the defense stepped up with a knockout of QB Trent Edwards after he threw just three passes for 18 yards. Overall the Bills had just 287 yards on the day. The Cards built a 14-0 lead, and then stepped it up when the Bills got within 7 at 21-14.

Neil Rackers kicked a 47-yard field goal to end the half at 24-14. Then after Rian Lindell made it 24-17 with 9:35 left in the third quarter, the Cards went on to score the last 17 points of the game. Warner hit Larry Fitzgerald for a two-yard score, then a Rackers field goal and a Tim Hightower score from 2 yards out ended the night with the 41-17 score.

Arizona needed this win, as coming off the bad two games in Washington and New York, it was a team that needed to regain that confidence. They did it vs a team that was 4-0, and it showed that they can match up with anyone in the NFL. The road does not get any easier, as this week they welcome in the Dallas Cowboys (4-1) on Sunday afternoon.
