Cards Set for Season Opener in San Fran

The Cardinals open regular season play this week when they travel to San Francisco to face their NFC West foe. It marks the second consecutive season that the Cardinals have opened the season at Candlestick Park.

Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt enters his second regular season with 21 of 22 starters returning from a team that finished 2007 at 8-8 and just missed the playoffs. Quarterback Kurt Warner is coming off his best season since his 2001 MVP year and with a healthy and fortified defense, the Cardinals hope to continue building on their success.

The Cardinals and 49ers face off in the opener for the third consecutive season and it will be the only NFC West opponent the Cardinals face until week nine when they travel to St. Louis. Arizona will open on the road for the 19th time in the last 21 years.

The Cardinals will return the Valley next week for their home opener against the Miami Dolphins before they embark on back-to-back games on the East Coast. San Francisco continues NFC West competition next week as they travel to Seattle.
