Cards Ready for Final Preseason Test vs Denver

The Cardinals and Broncos will meet in the final tune-up for the 2008 regular season. The Cardinals have won two in a row this preseason and are looking for their first preseason victory over the Broncos since 2004.

The Cardinals defense was the story last week in Oakland as the team pitched its first preseason shutout since 2003 and the fifth shutout for the team since the NFL-AFL merger in 1970. The Cardinals managed to keep the Raiders out of the endzone despite three turnovers while the running game came to life in the second half, led by rookie RB Tim Hightower and fourth-year RB J.J. Arrington. Each scored a touchdown, Hightower on a 13-yard run early in the third quarter and Arrington on a 67-yard run on the Cardinals next drive. In all, the offense piled up 215 yards on the ground in Oakland.

The Broncos are coming off a 27-24 home loss to the Green Bay Packers, a game that saw a Patrick Ramsey pass intercepted inside the Broncos redzone late in the fourth quarter, leading to a Packers touchdown that would decide the game.

Both teams begin the regular season next week in the Bay Area as the Cardinals open in an NFC West showdown in San Francisco next Sunday at 1:15 PM and the Broncos start the season at Oakland.
