Cards Return Home to Face the Falcons

The Cardinals return home for their final two games as they host the Atlanta Falcons before finishing the 2007 schedule next week vs. St. Louis.

The Cardinals are coming off another close road game, dropping to 6-8 as they lost to the New Orleans Saints 31-24 in their 11th game of the season to be decided by eight points or less. After getting out to an early 7-0 lead, the Cardinals could not hang on as Drew Brees completed 26-30 passes and two TDs in the game. Edgerrin James reached 1,000 yards for the second straight season and Larry Fitzgerald caught a TD pass for the fifth consecutive game, tying the franchise record.

Sunday’s loss, coupled with Minnesota’s 20-13 win over Chicago on Monday night, ended Arizona’s playoff chances. Also eliminated Monday night were the Eagles, Lions and Bears.

The Falcons are coming off a 37-3 loss to Tampa Bay in which interim head coach Emmitt Thomas took over the reins in his first game as an NFL head coach. With the game at 7-3 in the first quarter, the Buccaneers went on to score the game’s next 30 points en route to the victory. The Bucs scored in all facets of the game, running, passing and returning both an interception and a kickoff for touchdowns.

Arizona finishes the season against St. Louis at home next week while Atlanta returns home to face the Seahawks.
