O-Lineman Ross Taking $1 Mil Pay Cut

Cards O-lineman Oliver Ross will make $1.8 mil this season instead of the $2.8 he wasOliver Ross supposed to make, after taking a $1 mil pay cut.  The Arizona Republic reports today that Ross can make the $1 mil back in an incentive clause.  That clause likely involves playing time according to the article.  The Cards declined comment on the report, and Ross’ agent, Alan Herman could not be reached for comment.

Ross signed a five-year, $17.5 million dollar deal back in 2005, and that deal included a $3 mil signing bonus.  He was to make $2.8 mil each year on that contract.  The issue with Ross is that despite currently being listed as the starter at right tackle, he is going to at some point lose that job to the number five overall pick in the draft – Levi Brown.  Ross has not played all that well over the last two seasons, and has battled injuries as well.

The team is hoping that new head coach Ken Whisenhunt and offensive line/assistant head coach Russ Grimm can jump start Ross’ career.  They bothh coached Ross with the Steelers before he signed his big free agent deal with Arizona.
